Abstract

The social and legal nature of crime is examined in the article on the example of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. The main characteristics of crime – mass character, crime rate, statistical stability and patterns, characterized by a number of quantitative and qualitative indicators, are described in the interrelation with social and economic processes occurring in the investigated federal subject of the Russian Federation. The study of the regional aspect is determined by the peculiarities of organizing the activities of the internal affairs bodies in the field of crime prevention at a special criminological level. The author of the article analyzes the main indicators of social and economic characteristics of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District – the quantitative and qualitative composition of the population, since crime as a social phenomenon is closely linked to the population. The main crime trends in general and its structural components (certain types of crimes) in different periods of time are undergoing some changes, expressed as an increase (significant or insignificant), as well as a corresponding decrease. A comparative analysis of statistical indicators of the social and economic situation of the Russian Federation as a whole, the Ural Federal District and the YamaloNenets Autonomous District from 2000 to 2018 made it possible to establish some characteristics and patterns of crime in the investigated region, that are important for organizing the process of combating crime.
