Abstract

Today the unsolved issue of correlation of the concepts “criminalistic characteristic of crime” and “information model of crime” causes the debatable propositions of the criminalistic characteristic of crime itself and other scientific researches based on them (e.g. issues of building the model of person committed a crime) and has negative influence on the efficiency of using the existing projects in the law enforcement bodies’ activities. The study is aimed at considering scientific opinions on this range of problems, revealing the causes of arising discussions and elaborating proposals on their elimination. According to the analysis of different viewpoints of the considered issue the causes of difference of opinions are the following: 1) ambiguous interpretation of the term “model” in different scientific researches; 2) researchers do not take account of the model types when elaborating theoretical propositions of information model of criminal event. Criminalistic characteristic of crime is considered as information model of crime. The author proves the necessity to distinguish the model types (descriptive and dynamic) when elaborating its propositions. The data of the descriptive model can be used as initial concepts when elaborating theoretical propositions of the dynamic information model of crime. The above-mentioned models can be used jointly or independently during the criminal event investigation. The definitions of the concepts of types of information model of crime are provided. The features of methodology of their building are noted. The author’s opinion on the place of criminalistic characteristic of crime in the science system (considering the model types) is given.
